Workshops For Young People

We have been delivering workshops for children and young people for over five years and pride ourselves on the workshops being accessible, engaging, and empowering. Lived experience is at the centre of all our workshops, and they are facilitated by highly skilled LUNA volunteers who seriously know their stuff.

We have delivered workshops to children and young people of a range of ages in a range of settings (including online), and have experience delivering workshops for partner organisations, including as part of the award winning Children’s Health Scotland (CHS) Self Management Service program, CHS Hub, University of Glasgow ARCadia, and several primary and secondary schools.

The workshops we currently run for children and young people are listed below. Please note that many of these workshops were developed in response to the request of charities and organisations, and we are also happy to work with you to develop bespoke workshops, please [contact us]

Workshops for groups with disabled and non disabled children and young people (e.g. school class):

  • Disability 101: this workshop dives into what disability is and how we can better support our disabled peers. In our experience, this is often the first time that children and young people have had an opportunity to discuss disability.

Workshops for disabled children and young people:

  • Disability and Friendship: this workshop offers a space for children and young people to connect over worries and challenges to do with friendship, and think together about how to have conversations with their friends about their chronic illness. The workshop ends by helping them realise they are the kind of friend anyone would be lucky to have.
  • Talking about Transition: transitions (in education and healthcare) are often a source of stress and distress for disabled young people. This session offers a space to talk about worries surrounding transition with peers, and get the information and tools to feel better able to manage it.
  • An Accessible World… : during this session we introduce participants to the medical and social model of disability, and encourage them to get creative in imagining a world without barriers.
